Rugs can trap a lot of dust. Particularly wool rugs. Wool under a microscope is a very jagged fiber. The shape of the fiber helps to trap dust particles. While you should vacuum your rugs weekly, a vacuum has a difficult time getting a wool rug to release dust. At a modern cleaning plant we use several techniques that help release the dust particles with our modern equipment. Rug dusting processes are the main technique we use to release trapped dust particles.
When we dust a rug it is a multi step process with multiple types of machines. We lay out some grates and then lay your rug upside down on top of the grates. We then run the rug dusting machine on the backing of your rug. The machine gently agitates the backing and the dirt falls from the rug to the floor through the grates. The rug is sitting above its dirt not in its dirt. Then we run a beater brush vacuum across the backing of the rug. Rug is then turned over to be vacuumed with a pile lifter vacuum to comb the face yarn. We do all this as just a first step in the cleaning process to remove all loose debris to give you a clean rug.
