This is not a time to feel sorry for ourselves but to keep your chin up and deliver the best quality job you can deliver. Why? Let the other guy get depressed and slack off, not me. If you have less jobs than make sure each and every customer knows your the best so they can recommend your company to each and every one of their friends and relatives.

Spotting, a how to guide

Professional spotting has come a long way. I have been in the cleaning industry for over 20 years now. When I first started working on spots it could be really hazardous. The big thing, and still is, don’t make it worse. Spotting agents are designed to loosen the spot from the fiber. What happens when the spot is loosened? It could just sit there or it could spread. Proper technique with an ink stain is to never apply the spotter directly to the spot. Apply the spotter to a white cotton towel. Then wipe towards the center of the ink spot. Never rubbing back and forth. Rubbing back and forth can spread the spot. Making the spot larger is not what we are after. You keep repeating the process until either the spot disappears or the ink stops appearing on the towel.
Some of the more modern spotters we use today are encapsulation products that allow us to break some of the rules are stated above. One rule that never changes though is to test for color fastness before you begin. Know what your spotter might do to the carpet fibers before you start working in the middle of your room. Always safety first.
Some spots will require rinsing with a professional machine, as well as professional assistance with removal. Why Hot, Humid Summer Days Activate Odors in Your Carpet, Upholstery and Rugs

Humidity reactivates odors. Drink spills, pet stains, soil from shoes-- they all have odor causing bacteria. They linger in your carpet, rugs, and upholstery until they are rinsed out.
Urine problems have alkaline crystals that eventually dry up after several months. But when a humid day kicks in, you'll smell the odor again. The odors can linger for years.
What happens when you spill a drink like coffee? Sugars are embedded in the fibers. Tannin and dyes in the drink bond to the fibers as well.
Misting a good spot cleaner on the stain and wiping with an absorbent cloth helps. But the stain REALLY needs to be rinsed.
I suggest you purchase a small Bissell type spot machine available at most department stores. But remember, the smaller the machine, the more likely you are to get it out when a spill occurs. Huge bulky machines tend to sit in the closet. Get something that's light and easy to use.
If it's a spill, first extract all the liquid from the carpet. Then, mist on a quality spot remover. Call our office if you need recommendations for good spotters. Last, rinse the area with pure water from your small spot removal machine. That's it!
Just remember to act fast. The tips above can save you from ugly permanent stains.

Dunne Cleaning Specialists has been in business for over 42 years. Over 4 decades of experience have taught us that there is a right way to clean carpeting and the wrong way to clean carpeting. Many companies take a lot of short cuts, we don’t. We believe a carpet should be pre conditioned with a shampoo process first. Many companies take a short cut and pre spray the carpeting. This is a quicker and less labor intensive way to pre condition. The shampoo process uses a mild agitation to loosen soil in a circular motion hitting all sides of the fiber. Shampoo is light and aerated so the dirt sits on top of the shampoo, just waiting to be rinsed out by the next step. When you pre spray a carpeting you are expecting the soil to loosen upon contact. The solution must be fairly strong to accomplish this, the stronger the solution the harder it is to rinse out. Soap left in a carpeting can attract dirt. The rinse is always the secret to long lasting results. I believe that the shampoo is the best pre conditioner and it rinses cleaner than pre spray. We don’t cut corners, we clean them.
