Are your rugs really clean? Not are they covered with spills and spots but are they clean?

When people look at their rugs they think they are clean because they can’t see any visible spills or spots. Does this mean your rugs are clean? Actually no, it doesn’t mean your rugs are clean. Sometimes I hear that we never go in that room. Does that mean your rugs are clean? Again, actually no. Try this simple test, put a piece of white paper under the rug, stamp on top of the rug over the paper. Look at the paper and see if you find any dirt on the paper. You might be surprised. Another test could be to take your vacuum attachment and cover it with a cotton towel, a white cotton towel, and vacuum the surface of the rug. You might be surprised what you find. I usually surprise a lot of people on the job when I use our powerful vacuum with a clean white towel and show the customer how the towel has changed from white to dark within a couple of passes. Eureka did a test and found that a rug can obtain up to 87lbs of dirt and still look clean.
Would you wear a shirt that you had worn the day before if it looked clean? Probably not. Now would you lay on a rug that you hadn’t cleaned in a year, how about 2, or can I even remember when I had this rug cleaned? Think about it.
This soil can be harmful to the rug. Soil under a microscope can be jagged and can act like scissors on the carpet fibers scratching the fibers and cutting the fibers. This can prematurely wear out the rug or “ugly” out the rug. Regular cleaning and Scotchgard protections can lengthen the life span of rugs. Hand made rugs, when properly cared for, can be passed down if properly maintained. Besides who wants a dirty rug, how healthy is that?
