The best way to keep your carpeting longer is preventative maintenance on a regular basis. As far as how often should you have your carpeting cleaned at least once a year. Soil can act like small knives on the carpeting, cutting the fibers. These cuts allow soil to fill in to the inner portions of the fibers. This soil cannot be removed effectively by your vacuum. As your fibers get scratched the traffic patterns become dulled and start to look worn.
